Adventures in Asturias Part 3: Descanso en la Playa de Toró

As promised, today was a relaxing day spent in Llanes. Given all the excitement and activity over the past few days, it was nice to have some free time for group bonding. After breakfast we played a fun game to learn the names of Spanish fruits, and then reviewed some notes on pronunciation. Then, we quickly changed into our bathing suits and headed out to the nearby Playa de Toró, just a 10-minute walk from our hotel.

At the beach, we had fun splashing in the chilly Atlantic Ocean. Some soaked in some sun while listening to contemporary Spanish music, while others played a friendly match of ultimate frisbee with the group. We also found a few sirenas (mermaids) beached on the shore…

After the beach activities, we sat down for a nice meal at a nearby restaurant overlooking the ocean. We ‘d been so busy that we didn’t begin eating until 3:30 PM, and weren’t finished with lunch until after 5 PM. The students were all surprised at how natural it felt to be on the Spanish schedule — late big lunches that last until siesta time, and then small dinners in the evenings. We also had time to wander around Llanes in smaller groups and explore the vistas from the other side of town.

At our daily group meeting tonight, everyone shared their highs and lows of the day, and almost no one had a single low today — only high notes so far! Everyone is looking forward to another nice day tomorrow, when we’ll explore the Cuevas de Pindal, which are home to prehistoric paintings over 14,000 years old!

Hasta mañana,
Camila y Daniel
